is the third Vice Chancellor and the first Female Vice-Chancellor of UHAS. She is also the first nurse to become a Professor in Ghana and West Africa. She holds a Bachelor’s degree and an M.Phil. in Nursing from University of Ghana. She has a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
She worked at Mamprobi Polyclinic, Accra before joining University of Ghana, Legon in 2001 as a Senior Nurse Technician and rose through the ranks to become the first nurse Professor in 2021. Prof. Aziato serves on the expert advisory committee of the International Council of Nurses. She has extensive corporate governance experience, having served on several boards and committees locally and internationally. Prof. Aziato has received several awards and recognitions for her professional and academic excellence,
Prof. Lydia Aziato has published over 100 articles in credible international peer reviewed journals, three books, and four book chapters. Her research interests include pain, breast cancer, and women’s health. Citations of her research exceed 2,800, making her the leading nurse scholar in Ghana. She is married with 3 children.
