Our Vision

A world where women across all sectors—academic, entrepreneurial, legal, engineering, built environment, and beyond—are equally represented, respected, and resourced to lead boldly and live fully.

Our Mission

To inspire, support, and amplify women’s contributions across all sectors while advocating for inclusive policies that drive gender equity and foster sustainable economic and social growth.

Why we are different

Africa-rooted, globally connected- Grounded in local realities, working within global conversations
Cross-sectoral focus- Championing women across all sectors and professions
Story-driven, action-oriented- Telling real stories to drive real policy change.
Built by women. For women. With allies who champion women.

How it started

Founded in Ghana by women who have walked the path of academia, leadership, and entrepreneurship, The Academic Woman Foundation was born out of a clear need:

Too often, women, especially in the Global South, lack access to platforms that recognise their experiences, amplify their talents, or support their ambitions. We created this foundation to change that narrative.

Through podcast episodes, thought leadership articles, mentoring programmes, and landmark events like the SHE BUILDS Conference, we are building a global movement of connected, empowered, and highly visible women.

Our mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By investing in the visibility, development, and leadership of women in academia and beyond, we are actively working to create more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable futures for communities around the world.
